Dr. Windy Gordon was featured in the September 9th Citizen-Times ‘Answer Man’ column. In 1997, Gordon and a Bette Purnell (Brevard staff member) took seven students down the French Broad River from Rosman, NC to the Gulf of Mexico as part of an interdisciplinary program called ‘Voice of the Rivers.’ Gordon said,”We put in the water at Rosman, NC, where I think the French Broad is about 20 feet wide,” Gordon said. “Three and a half months later we were floating in the ocean. We averaged 20 miles a day. The shortest day was 4 miles, the longest day was 37.” The total mileage was 1,882. They left in August and arrived in December. Read the entire column here.
