CEAP Faculty Selected as Honorary Inductees to Honor Society

Two faculty members in CEAP have been selected as honorary inductees to the WCU chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda, the national honor society for nontraditional students. The faculty members are Cathy Grist from the department of Human Services and David McCord, department head of Psychology.

Psychology Student wins Service Learning Award

Kenya Crocker, an undergraduate student in psychology, received the “Outstanding Student Achievement Award” from the Department of Service Learning. The Service Learning Awards ceremony was held April 28, 2011.

This award is given to the student who has demonstrated continued service in a course and beyond. Kenya developed a service activity site in Fall, 2010 for a psychology course, helping to tutor children at a local church on Tuesday evenings (“Tuesday Night Tutoring”).  She continued the activity through Spring 2011 getting other students involved and overseeing their work.

Professor wins Department of Education Research Grant

Dr. Meagan Karvonen has won a $900,000 research grant from the US Department of Education. The grant is to develop more meaningful ways of assessing the progress of students who have significant cognitive disabilities.

Psi Chi Induction Ceremony

Psi Chi, the national honors society for psychology students, will induct their new members Wednesday, April 27 at 4:00 pm in Illusions.
