ELMG Students to Present at WCU Graduate Research Symposium

Seven students in Elementary and Middle Grades Education will present their individual classroom-based research projects at the WCU Graduate Research Symposium on March 21st. The students are Elizabeth Anderson, Melissa Strother-Stout, Shelley Graham, Cynthia Margiotta, Nancy McGowan, Melissa Faetz, and Delaney Holloway. They are sponsored by Carrie Rogers, assistant professor of elementary and middle grades.

CEAP Celebrates Award-Winning Teaching

The college congratulates Heather Thompson Rainey as the recipient of the 2013 Botner Award for Superior Teaching. We also congratulate Kelly Tracy and Ellen Sigler as winners of the 2013 Legislative Award for Teaching Excellence.

Jaqua, Faughn elected to state board

Kathy M.C. Jaqua, associate professor of mathematics education, and Axelle Faughn, assistant professor of mathematics education, were recently elected to serve two-year terms on the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics board of directors, Jaqua as state college vice president and Faughn as Western region college vice president. The National Association of Professors of Middle Level Education recognized David Strahan, the Taft B. Botner Distinguished Professor of Elementary and Middle Grades Education at WCU, as the 2012 Outstanding Middle Level Professor. For more information, see the article in The Reporter.

Mazzotti and Wargo win college-wide awards

The college congratulates Valerie Mazzotti, assistant professor of special education, for winning the college’s Exemplary Research Award. The college also congratulates Steve Wargo, academic advisor with TRACS, for winning the college’s Exemplary Service Award.

WCU professor to present keynote address at Brazil event

Kirk Smith, assistant professor of human resources and leadership at WCU, will deliver a keynote address Thursday, April 11, for the HR Metrics and Indicators Special Forum to be held in Brazil.Smith will present via videoconference “How Performance Metrics and Indicators of Human Capital May Contribute to Improving Organizational Quality, Innovation and Productivity.” For more information, see the WCU News article.
