Fowlkes Featured in Publication

samLongtime PRM Canoeing and Whitewater Rescue Instructor, Sam Fowlkes, is featured in the November issue of the American Canoeing Association’s Paddle publication. Fowlkes has been a recognized leader in paddlesports for 40 years and has recieved multiple awards and honors over his career. Lomotey Receives Achievement Award

kofiDr. Kofi Lomotey, Bardo Distinguished Professor of Education Leadership, was named one of the University Council for Education Administration (UCEA) 2018 Hidden Figures at the 32nd Annual ECUA Convention in Houston, Tx. The Hidden Figures Award honors “scholars and trailblazers who have broken barriers and opened doors so that today’s generation can stand tall with dignity and integrity. They provide wisdom, guiding strength, and love and serve with joy, enthusiasm, and excellence expecting nothing in return. They have made significant contributions to the field and will continue to advance educational leadership and policy.”

“Those Who Can, Teach and Work Two Jobs” Paper Presentation

blair photoEllie Blair presented her work on teacher moonlighting as part of an  Invited Presidential Session entitled, “Teacher Moonlighting and the Dark Side of Teachers’ Work” at  the American Educational Studies Association (AESA) annual meeting in Greenville, South Carolina on Thursday, November 8th.  AESA is an international learned society committed to supporting scholars in the foundations of education.

PRM Students Present at Adventure Ed Conference

prmstudentsThe 26th Annual Adventure Education Conference was held at UNCA on November 2.  Over 50 PRM and RTH students attended the conference along with faculty members; Andrew Bobilya, Debby Singleton, Callie Schultz, Glenn Middleton, Maurice Phipps, and Jennifer Hinton.  PRM students presented two presentations.  “Star Power Stimulation: Poverty within Recreation” led by Tayler Carrigan and Krista Patton.  “Partnering with Outside Agencies” presented by Seth Blanton, Emily Dobson, and Allie Pratt.

Bobilya & Phipps Present, Bobilya Wins Award

conference logoParks and Recreation Management faculty members Dr. Andrew Bobilya and Professor Emeritus Dr. Maurice Phipps presented workshops at the Association for Outdoor Recreation and Education (AORE) and Wilderness Education Association (WEA) joint conference in Snowbird, Utah October 23-27, 2018. Dr. Bobilya was also honored by the WEA as the Outdoor Educator of the Year.
