The CEAP Research Colloquium is a new initiative in the college to feature research conducted among faculty and students. It is held every Wednesday from 4-5 pm in Killian 338. All faculty and students are invited. This week’s (Sept 7) speakers are Meagan Karvonen, Kia Asberg, and Debbie Racey, all of the Psychology department.
The College of Education and Allied Professions has completed a planned reorganization, consolidating from five departments to three academic units. This change is effective as of July 1, 2011.
The School of Teaching and Learning houses Elementary Education, Middle Grades Education, Special Education, and all Secondary Education programs.
The Department of Human Services holds the programs in Birth-Kindergarten, College Student Personnel, Community College Administration, Counseling, the Doctor of Education, Human Resources, Parks and Recreation Management, and the Master’s of School Administration/Post Master’s Certificate in Public School Licensure.
The Department of Psychology has the bachelors and masters degrees in Psychology and the Specialist in School Psychology.
David Solomon (graduate student), Jenna Cordrey (undergraduate psychology major) and Dr. Asberg (faculty sponsor) just learned that their poster, titled “Personality Traits as Predictors of Adult Psychological Adjustment”, was accepted for presentation at ABCT’s 45th Annual Convention to be held on November 10-13, 2011 in Toronto. ABCT is the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and gathers researchers in clinical and counseling psychology for the purpose of informing psychotherapy treatments. Teaching Fellows students have won multiple awards across the campus for this academic year (2010-2011). The full list is below.
Kenya Crocker, an undergraduate student in psychology, received the “Outstanding Student Achievement Award” from the Department of Service Learning. The Service Learning Awards ceremony was held April 28, 2011.
This award is given to the student who has demonstrated continued service in a course and beyond. Kenya developed a service activity site in Fall, 2010 for a psychology course, helping to tutor children at a local church on Tuesday evenings (“Tuesday Night Tutoring”). She continued the activity through Spring 2011 getting other students involved and overseeing their work.
